3) Who can vote?
Full and associate members of TABJ from the 2013-14 period can vote. Student members cannot vote. According to the TABJ Constitution and By-Laws, “Student Members are not allowed to vote, hold office, or chair committees; provided, however, the Student Member appointed to the Board of Directors, known as the Student Representative, shall be entitled to vote on matters before the Board in the same manner as other directors.” (TABJ Constitution and By-Laws | Article 3: Membership - 3.1.c)

5) What positions are available on the Board of Directors? What are each officer’s duties?
The positions and duties are as follows:
- The President shall be the chief executive office of TABJ.
- The Vice President of Print will perform duties set by the Board.
- The Vice President of Broadcast will perform duties set by the Board.
- The Treasurer has primary responsibility of the budget.
- The Secretary is responsible for preparing the meetings and authenticating records. (Article 6: Officers – 6.1 and 6.4)
According to the TABJ Constitution and By-Laws, the 2014-15 Board of Directors may appoint a Parliamentarian and/or Student Representative.
- The Parliamentarian shall possess knowledge of the TABJ By-Laws, any other rules and act as sergeant-at-arms at meetings.
- The Student Representative must be a TABJ Student Member and shall be entitled to vote on matters before the Board in the same manner as other directors. (Article 6: Officers – 6.1 and 6.4)
6) Must TABJ officers be NABJ members, as well?
Only FULL members of both NABJ and TABJ can run for President, Vice President of Print and Vice President of Broadcast.
All members of the TABJ board, whether full, associate or student members, must be NABJ members, at the time of chapter renewal (December). This is an NABJ requirement.
7) Who can run for President and Vice President?
Only FULL members of both NABJ and TABJ can run for President, Vice President of Print and Vice President of Broadcast. ASSOCIATE members may not run for those positions. 8) What positions can associate members hold on the Board?

9) How long is the term for Board members?
The term is for one calendar year. (Article 6: Officers – 6.2)
10) How can I become a member of TABJ?

- Print out the membership application form at http://triadabj.weebly.com/membership.html. Fill out the application and mail it with payment to Triad Association of Black Journalists, P.O. Box 532, Colfax, N.C. 27235.
- Deliver the application and payment in person at TABJ meetings or events.
11) What are the different categories of membership?
- $40. Full membership. Full members include writers, reporters, editors, photographers, columnists and freelancers who earn a majority of their income from freelance activity. Full members have the right to vote, hold office, chair committees and serve all positions on the TABJ board.
- $30. Associate membership. These members work in academia, media sales and public relations. They have the same rights as full members, except they can only be elected as the Secretary or Treasurer, or appointed by the Board as Parliamentarian.
- $15. Student membership. Full- and part-time students cannot vote, chair committees or hold office, except that of the Student Representative, who is appointed by the Board. (Article 3: Membership)
